Author Event at Manchester City FC

Date: 20th Oct 2017 @ 9:23am

Year 6 enjoyed another fantastic literacy visit this week.

Paul Cookson - a famous author and poet - was at Manchester City stadium to work with the children. We joined children from other local primary schools - Saviour CE and Ravensbury and enjoyed a carousel of activities throughout the morning.

The first activity was in the indoor training centre where the children did relay races to collect letters - they had to work together to spell out a word using scrabble letters to see which team could get the highest score - the winning word was 'quack'! They also had to order themselves (as a class) according to the month they were born - but they were not allowed to speak! They did this brilliantly in 1m 40 seconds!

Next, the children enjoyed working with Paul Cookson and created their own performance poem in just 30 minutes!

Finally, Year 6 were taken on a tour of the stadium. They were very impressed with the changing room where all of the footballers store their belongings! They also enjoyed walking through the tunnel and out to see the pitch. The tunnel is the only glass tunnel in the UK and, just before a match begins, the lights are dimmed so that the cooporate members in the restaurant can see the players before they go out onto the pitch.

We had a fantastic morning!! Thank you to The Literacy Trust and MCFC for organising such a fantastic event!
