Autumn 2 - Week 1

Date: 2nd Nov 2018 @ 5:34pm

Class 1 have had a very busy first week back! The children have jumped straight into our new, exciting topics and have already learnt so much.

Just as we were about to start Literacy on Monday morning something very strange and wonderful happened. We heard a quiet knock on the door and the children couldn't believe their eyes when they saw a penguin waiting to enter our classroom! We decided to let him in and look after him but after a big discussion, the children concluded that they didn't know enough about penguins to keep him as a pet. So they decided that they would find out more about penguins and spent the whole week completing research. They found so many interesting facts about a penguin's habitat and diet. The children's favorite fact was that penguins put a special oil on their feathers to make themselves waterproof. Using their research, the children created their very own penguin fact files on Friday and I was very impressed with their use of capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Our new science topic is Animals Including Humans and this week we were exploring the human body. The children worked collaboratively in their Kagan teams to complete a very fun team task. They used post-it notes to label one of their team members. I was very impressed with how many body parts they could identify correctly. We will continue our topic next week by looking at our body senses.

In Class 1, we have two very special class members. Agnes and Mabel - our fluffy, pet guinea pigs. The children take turns each week to care for the guinea pigs. This includes: feeding them, giving them vegetables, making sure they have fresh water and cleaning out their cage. This week some of the children enjoyed their chance to have a little cuddle!

This week, Betsy Bear decided to go home with Vanessa! She thinks that Vanessa's writing has improved so much and she really enjoyed reading Vanessa's penguin fact file.
