Autumn 2- Week 2

Date: 8th Nov 2018 @ 2:43pm

It's been another busy week in Year 3. The children have worked incredibly hard (as always!).

In Literacy, we read the Greek Myth 'Theseus and the Minotaur'. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and thought that Theseus was very brave for doing what he did. Our writing focus for the week was newspaper reports, so we explored the features and distinguished between facts and opinions. The children then wrote their own newspaper report about the battle and presented their reports on 'Abbott's Breaking News' channel. Some of the headlines they came up with were fantastic! We had: The Deadly Slay, Theseus Vs Minotaur, The Deadly Battle and Minotaur: Dead or Alive?

In Maths, we continued to work on our multiplication skills and have now moved onto calculating division with remainders. The children have been using lots of concrete and pictorial representations to help them understand division and I am very impressed at how they are choosing what they want to use to support their learning, showing they have a clear understanding of how to use them.

We were very lucky on Wednesday because, along with Year 2 and 4, we were invited by Into Film Festival to watch a special preview of the new Grinch film. The children were laughing most of the way through it and wrote their own film review afterwards.

To celebrate the 100th year since World War I ended, we made our own poppies using paint and paper plates, these will be used for a whole school display.

Take a look at us working hard this week:
