D.E.A.R - Drop Everything And Read! #readmanchester

Date: 2nd Oct 2017 @ 7:53am

Thursday 28th September 2017 was National Poetry Day. It was also Manchester's 'drop everything and read' campaign to promote the benefits of reading for 10 minutes every day.

Year 6 walked into Manchester city centre to the central library where they enjoyed a performance by the poet Dominic Berry. They really enjoyed his poems about dinosaurs! They enjoyed refreshments and an opportunity to choose a book to read for the 'drop everything and read'.

At 11:45 the children went outside into St. Peter's Square with comfy cushions to sit on and read for 10 minutes. Lots of people passing by were offered books to read to join in.

It has been medically proven that reading for 10 minutes every day can reduce stress. It also improves vocabulary and literacy skills.
