First day back!

Date: 5th Sep 2018 @ 5:34pm

What a lovely first day back we have had in Class 3! I was very happy to see lots of smiling faces greeting me this morning. The children settled really well and have enjoyed their first day in Year 3. They now know all of the class rules, expectations and routines and will become more familiar with them over the next few weeks. We did a lot of team building activities in our new teams. The children enjoyed making up a short routine using only the first letter of their names (we had some interesting moves!).

In Maths I introduced the children to some of the games we will play to help us practise our counting skills. One was called counting boxing where the children 'box' a number to each other and their partner has to say the next number in the sequence depending what we are counting in. Another popular game was cops and robbers. The children have a set of cards, which increase by 3, 4, 8 or 50. The cop looks away as they are writing down information about a previous crime, whilst the robber steals a number and shouts robbery! The cop then looks back and has to figure out which number has been stolen and explain to their partner why. For example, the number 27 is missing because when you are counting in 3s the number after 24 isn't 30. This helps to develop their reasoning skills. Also in maths, we have introduced a number of the day. Every morning the children will come in and have different numbers on the board which they have to answer questions about. E.g. 10 more, 10 less, is it odd or even, write it in words etc.

We look forward to welcoming parents and carers to our class on Friday :).
