Fruit cocktails

This week in maths we have been learning all about capacity. We have learnt how to read scales with different divisions, how to add and subtract different amounts, how to compare measures and some equivalences between millilitres and litres.

Today we made our own fruit cocktails! The children were given a choice of three: dazzling delight, scrumdiddliumptious surprise and marvellous meltdown. They had to work in pairs to pour the amounts required, carefully reading the scales to check they had the right amount. After that they were debating the statement: 'Miss Henderson said that she would rather have 1000ml than 1 litre because you would get more'. Most children realised that, actually, they are the same amount.
