This week, in maths, the children have been developing their knowledge and understanding of money. After the children spent some time identifying the value of each coin, they started to use different denominations of coins to make certain amounts. They enjoyed placing money into piggy banks and as they did this I encouraged them to think of multiple ways they could make one amount.

The children then worked in pairs and acted out a toy shop scenario. One child would pick an item they wished to purchase from the toy shop and they then had to pay their partner using the correct coins. This was a good opportunity for the children to support, and be supported by, their peers in order to develop their skills.

The children really enjoyed exploring money and impressed me with how well they supported their team-members!
