Summer 1: Week 3

Date: 26th Apr 2024 @ 6:35am

This week, we have finished reading The Rabbit Problem, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed! After completing their story maps, they made their own story booklet about it: I was blown away by their imagination!

In Maths, we have started Quick Maths in preparation for Year 2; this is daily arithmetic practice to consolidate their understanding of addition and subtraction. The children used dienes, counters, and tens frames to help them add and subtract numbers up to 50.

We have started our science topic, which is plants. The children could remember lots about plants from their time in nursery and reception! So far, the children now know the difference between wild and garden plants and can name some examples of them. They have also learnt about the parts of a plant when exploring how a seed grows into a flower; we did a drama activity to represent this! They then planted their own runner bean seeds, which we will be observing over time and keeping a 'bean diary'.

A wonderful week had by all :).
