Autumn 1 - Week 1 & 2

Date: 14th Sep 2018 @ 7:09pm

This week was the children's first full week in Year 1 and we have been very busy! After finding a little creature on the school field, we began to explore our new Literacy text, 'The Bog Baby'. As we continued to read parts of the story throughout the week, the children developed their understanding of the creature we had found and started to debate what they thought we should do with him. Some children thought we should return our Bog Baby whilst others thought we should keep him safe in our classroom. After a democratic vote, we have decided to keep him...for now! Using the description from the storybook, the children then used clay, pipe cleaners and paint to make their very own Bog Baby. On Friday the children wrote character descriptions about our Bog Baby using some excellent adjectives.

On Thursday we celebrated Roald Dahl Day and I was very impressed by the children's costumes. In the whole-school costume competition, our class had so many good costumes that four children were chosen as winners! The children spent the whole day learning all about Roald Dahl, specifically his book James and the Giant Peach. In Literacy, the children wrote character descriptions for different characters in James and the Giant Peach and in Maths they had to put the correct amount of peaches on each peach tree. When doing this, the children had to work collaboratively within their Kagan teams.

This week our class bear, Betsy Bear, decided to go home with Nevaeh. Betsy was very impressed with how hard she has worked all week and how helpful she has been to the teachers and her teammates.

What a great first two weeks Class 1!
