Why are British Values important to us?

Date: 25th Oct 2017 @ 12:32pm

We have been exploring British Values in Class 6, in terms of which values we feel society needs. The children were asked first of all to come up with their own values that guided how we live in society, which we then considered alongside the British Values: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect and Tolerance.

The children then considered how these values were important to THEM in school.  There were so many fantastic ideas and clear views from the children on how each of these values was important.

We also began making links between British Values and significant events in Black History. The children looked at the events surrounding Rosa Parks and how at this time not all values - mutual respect, individual liberty - were evident. They then produced recounts from the perspective of Rosa Parks or the Bus Driver.
