Autumn 2: Week 1
Date: 30th Oct 2024 @ 6:48pm
It has been wonderful to welcome the children back.
On Monday, we had a knock on the door. To our surprise, it was a penguin with a suitcase!! Inside the suitcase there was: a water bottle, an umbrella, a tin of tuna, a map of the world, and a torch. The children used these items to make predictions as to why the penguin had arrived. The next day, the penguin left us a note and a book called Lost and Found. The children were so excited to start reading it and find out more about the penguin.
In maths, we have started to explore addition, using the diennes to help the children understand that parts added together make a whole.
In geography, we will be learning all about the seaside. Firstly, the children learnt about coastal, rural, and urban areas. In teams, they sorted a variety of images into these categories.
We will be learning all about animals in scince, hence why I asked for the children to bring in any toys/teddies. We used the teddies to classify a range of animals based on their features. The children came up with great questions to classify their teddies, such as: 'Does it live in/near the water?' , 'Does it have a tail?' , 'Does it have wings?'. Next week we will learn more about the different animal groups and sort a range of animals into the correct groups.
