Christmas Cushions!

Date: 27th Nov 2024 @ 8:19am

Over the past few weeks, Year 6 have been working so hard to design, make and evaluate their very own Christmas cushions. They first of all built upon their knowledge from Year 5 and practised different types of stitches independently. These included: running stitch, back stitch and over stitch. They then were introduced to a new aspect of sewing: applique and they practised sewing different elements onto fabric. Once they had practised the skills that were required, all of the children designed a cushion to sell at our Christmas fair. They thought carefully about if they wanted it to be a cushion used for aesthetic purposes or functional purposes and then got sewing! The children absolutely loved the challenge of sewing their own cushion. We had a few hiccups along the way but during our evaluation lesson, the children thought carefully about what went wrong and why.
