Fact families

In Year 1, we’re learning all about fact families! A fact family is a group of related math facts that use the same numbers. It’s like a little family of addition and subtraction facts that are connected.
For example, with the numbers 2, 3, and 5, we can make a fact family:
-
Addition facts:
2 + 3 = 5
3 + 2 = 5 -
Subtraction facts:
5 - 2 = 3
5 - 3 = 2
Although this was a tricky concept for the children to grasp initially, they are now much more confident in finding the fact families for different part-whole models. We will continue to practise this in school, and it will be the focus for their homework this week.
They worked so hard in their pairs supporting each other in their learning journeys- I am so proud!
