Phenomenal Phonics

This half term, the children have learned all Set 1 single letter sounds during their phonics lessons. In each lesson, the children participate in activities that encourage them to orally blend words. This is so important as it helps the children understand how individual sounds come together to form words.
To further support your child's learning at home, we encourage you to incorporate oral blending into your daily routine. You can sound out simple words during everyday activities and ask your child to blend the sounds together. For example, if you say the sounds c-a-t they can blend them into the word cat.
Once the children felt comfortable with the new sounds that they had learned, we introduced them to Blending Boards in order to practice blending sounds together to form words. Through this activity, the children have the opportunity to explore the connections between sounds and letters, enhancing their understanding of how to decode words.
